The last of the five international expositions hosted in Paris. The other expositions were held in 1855, 1867, 1878, 1889, and 1900. It is remember mostly for the contrasting pavilions of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union which literally "faced off" in front of the Eiffel Tower.
