Korea celebrated its world's world's fair in 1993, one hundred years after the first Korean Pavilion, at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Held in Taejon, the town is now Romanized as "Daejon," it was advertized as the first world's fair held in a developing nation. Korea will once again host a world expo in 2012 in Yeosu, South Korean.

The site was situated around the Tower of Great Light. The site and the tower are now part of Expo Park.
