Año Internacional de la Juventud
La “World Achievements Exhibition of Young Inventors” se celebró en Plovdiv, Bulgaria, del 4 al 30 de noviembre de 1985. Exposición especializada sobre el tema de los inventos, fue organizada por el gobierno de Bulgaria junto con la Organización Mundial de la Propiedad Intelectual (OMPI), que la presentó como “Bulgaria '85”. El recinto abarcó 5.8 hectáreas. La Oficina Internacional de Exposiciones (Bureau International des Expositions, BIE) registra un millón de visitas, mientras que el informe de la OMPI de la época contó más de 500 mil visitantes.
La exposición se celebró bajo el patrocinio de Todor Zhivkov, presidente del Consejo de Estado de Bulgaria, y de Arpad Bogsch, director general de la OMPI, con el viceprimer ministro Choudomir Alexandrov como comisario. Más de 1,000 personas asistieron a la ceremonia de inauguración. Un stand de la OMPI explicaba los objetivos, la estructura y el trabajo de la organización, y el 9 de noviembre se reunieron en Plovdiv inventores de 15 países africanos.
Según la OMPI, se exhibieron más de 4,200 inventos de más de 70 países, incluidos trabajos de unos 50 países en desarrollo; el BIE registra 54 participantes oficiales. Inventores de 39 países recibieron en total 239 premios especiales, galardones y medallas de oro, y una Medalla de Oro de la OMPI fue para un equipo de investigación búlgaro dirigido por Ivan Tagavov.
Del 12 al 15 de noviembre, Bulgaria y la OMPI celebraron, en el marco de la exposición, un Seminario Internacional sobre “La inventiva con fines de desarrollo”. Presidido por el profesor Dimitar Shopov, vicepresidente de la Academia Búlgara de Ciencias, reunió a unos 300 participantes de 27 países.
El BIE describe la Expo 1985 Plovdiv como la primera Exposición Mundial de Jóvenes Inventores. Plovdiv, que había sido sede de la Expo 1981 Plovdiv en el mismo recinto, volvió al tema con la Expo 1991 Plovdiv, organizada de nuevo con la OMPI. La Expo 1985 Plovdiv incorporó la protección y la promoción de la invención a la familia de las Exposiciones Internacionales.
